The “spinal canal” extends from the skull to the tip of the sacrum, which contains the spinal cord down
to the T12-L1 level. Beyond this point, there are just nerve roots, which make up the cauda equina. The
spinal cord and cauda equina are surrounded by cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the thecal sac (dura).
